What is Life Coaching?

 

Coaching involves helping people move forward or to create change in their life. Coaching can be for specific issues or for general improvements in well being. Coaching works on the principle that every person has the answers to all their problems within themselves and that with enough uninterrupted thinking time and positive support we can all resolve our own issues.

 

A coach's role is to actively listen to the coachee (person being coached), without judgement or criticism, to allow the coachee to explore their own beliefs and feelings in a safe, supportive environment. A coach offers no advice, sympathy or personal views but will guide the coachee through the thoughts and feelings they express with carefully posed questions and exercises.

 

Coaching and counselling are subtly different. Counselling tends to deal with the immediate matter at hand, focusing on past events and feelings and can involve the cousellor giving advice and instructing. Coaching tends to work at a deeper level dealing with the subconsious beliefs that create the issues to be resolved. Once past issues have been settled coaching works forward to create a positive future for the coachee to build on. By working with the core beliefs changes tend to be more profound and sustained whilst developing future goals can give the coachee purpose to drive their life forward.

 

Lack of confidence, anxiety, fears, low self esteem, poor motivation, family and relationship difficulties, life direction, career aspirations, responsibility, health and financial problems are all typical issues that a coachee might discuss during a coaching session and these and many other issues can be resolved with the support and guidance I can give as a coach.

 

Typically a person who has been coached will experience increases in self belief and self worth, greater clarity of purpose and direction and improved general wellbeing. Many coachees also find that their desire to create a healthier lifestyle builds as coaching helps them to love themselves more and want only the best for themselves.
